Starting yesterday on July 14, 2017 the Asian Film Festival of Dallas comes back to the Angelika at Dallas. This is the 16th year of the festival and my second time going. I am very excited to be attending once again because the festival is led by some of the best film people in the Dallas area. They are constantly working and have selected what looks like another amazing set of Asian films. With 34 feature films and many other shorts, I am excited to try to see as many as I possibly can. This means that there will be quite a lot reviews for Asian movies coming up.

I’m truly excited because we don’t get to see these movies very often. Sure, there’s Well Go USA who does a fantastic job at distributing these films, but there’s no theater that I can think of that exclusively shows Asian films year-round. That’s what makes this event special. The biggest change from American films to Asian film is obviously the action. The choreography always looks like it was worked on for more than a week and has more energy to it. The familial emotional bonds will also be stronger between characters, and that’s why I’m excited to see them. Maybe, after the festival, I will get into watching more films like this.

The features and shorts alike look spectacular this year. I’m not the biggest fan of the short films, but these always get me excited. I feel like there’s nothing that I can truly expect and that makes me excited. The opening, spotlight, and closing films all look interesting in their own unique ways. I’m probably most excited for the closing night film. That being said, all of the films look great. I have seen the commercial showing all of the films, and they all look interesting. There isn’t one that I think I can skip.

In conclusion, a lot of reviews are coming. Hopefully, I can write my initial thoughts and then keep going so that I don’t miss anything. I also hope that I can see as many as possible. I am going to see Kendrick Lamar perform tonight, so I’ll be missing most of the films today which is great and sucks. Anyways, I hope to see everyone there! It’s going to be a blast!
