So, it’s been a few days since I’ve seen Spider-Man: Homecoming and it’s actually stuck with me. To such an extent that I’m excited to see it again on opening night. Get hyped along with me as I go over my top 5 reasons to get excited for Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Michael Keaton as Vulture
Michael Keaton has once again outdone himself with another wonderful performance. His epic return back to the film is almost complete with this role. His character is believable and has more depth than expected. With a backstory that culminates to an epic conclusion or start of a whole new character. Keaton’s performance is real and genuine to the point where it’s hard not to root for him. One of the first times in my experience with the Marvel films.
Tom Holland as Spider-Man
I’ll be the first to say that I was skeptical of the new Spider-man. How could he bring something more than Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield have brought from their respective performances? Holland brings a new energy to the film that makes it feel like the whole world is in front of him. It’s something that’s unexpected and dashingly charming.
Zendaya as Michelle
Oh, My Goodness! Zendaya’s performance comes from nowhere! She was poignant, stunning, and everything I wanted as the snarky cool kid. Her delivery was nearly perfect and I wanted to see her on screen time and time again. Zendaya deserves and should receive more credit as this film starts to hit theaters, but her role should be something that makes everyone Google her name and realize what a star she is.
The weapons and the Alien Tech in this film was so cool to see on the big screen. It was something that I was glad appeared in a Spider-man movie because it fit the tone and made the film that much more enjoyable. It made the battles bigger and made the whole movie have a deeper purpose. It made the threats even larger and made us care each time they appeared. The visual effects associated with them were also wonderful and makes me excited to see them again. They reminded me of the visuals from Dr. Strange.
Tony Stark, Happy, Captain America, and Hannibal Buress
The combination of these characters makes this movie. I don’t there have been more laughs in any Marvel movie including Guardians of the Galaxy because of the way that Jon Watts integrated new and old into his film. Their delivery is perfect and matches how they would act in the world if they existed. Some of my all-time favorite moments come from these characters! The dynamics between them are fantastic and wonderful.
